Education

BSc. in Natural Resource Management / Land Use Policy and Planning (University of Wisconsin – Madison), MSc. In Mineral and Resource Economics / International Development (University of Arizona), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Sustainable Development Management (SUSL). He also completed the Management Development Program from Cornell University and the Summer Program for Peace Education Faculty from the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, Notre Dame University.

Dr. Urooj Malik is a global citizen having lived, educated and worked in a number of countries around the world.  He is a development professional, having a passion for the environment and is an advocate for peace. He commands over 35 years of experience in socio-economic development in the Asia-Pacific region.  
Since 2018, Dr. Malik has been a Professor of Practice at the Mindanao State University (MSU) – Main Campus at Marawi City in Mindanao, Philippines where he teaches in the graduate program. He is also an Associate Professor at Selinus University of Sciences and Literature (SUSL). 
In addition, Dr. Malik has been serving since 2014 as the Principal Adviser on Development Management at the Bangsamoro Development Agency Inc. for providing advice on development policy and planning and project management.  In recent years, Dr. Malik has been involved in a number of training programs for various agencies on inclusive governance, policy and strategy formulation, and sustainability, under the auspices of the United Nations.  As the former Chairman and CEO of a non-profit organization - Hineleban Foundation Inc. (HFI), Dr. Malik’s work focused on implementing livelihood projects for the poorest minorities in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao. Prior to his joining HFI, Dr. Malik was with the Asian Development Bank where his career spanned over two and half decades, with his final posting as the Director for Southeast Asia Department. Concurrently, he was Co-chair of the Environment Community of Practice and Panel Member for the Study on the Economics of Climate Change. Dr. Malik has edited and authored numerous articles and publications on sustainable development and is a recipient of several awards from governments and organizations.
